Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens,
It is my absolute delight to inform you that Untermyer Gardens will reopen to the public on Friday, July 10, having been closed for 16 weeks exactly. New York State has now given the Mid-Hudson Region permission to enter Phase 4, which allows public gardens to be open with social distancing in place.
Until further notice, the garden will be open three days a week—Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—from 12:00–6:00pm. Free admission will be allowed through an online timed-entry system, so you must sign up for a specific arrival time. YOU CANNOT COME TO THE GARDEN AND EXPECT TO ENTER WITHOUT A RESERVED TIME. Going forward, reservations for each open day will be available a week ahead of time. As a courtesy, we ask that visits not exceed 90 minutes. All guests must enter and exit through the main gate to the Walled Garden, but most of the garden will be accessible.
We will strictly control the number of people in the garden at all times, and a one-way traffic pattern will minimize contact with others. Face masks are required and must be worn during the entire visit; anyone without a face mask will have to leave the garden. We also expect that individuals/household groups will maintain a minimum of six feet social distancing from other visitors. Various parts of the garden will be closed to prevent crowding.
We have worked closely with the City of Yonkers for many weeks to arrive at this point, and we are grateful for their cooperation, in particular that of Deputy Mayor Steven Levy and Parks Commissioner Anthony Landi. A team of volunteers will help us monitor public safety, and I want to give them our hearty thanks. Let’s hope that our reopening will be done safely and smoothly so that we can gradually expand access even more. We ask for your patience and understanding as we move forward.
