I am delighted to announce the installation of our new sign at Untermyer Gardens. We are quite pleased that it gives prominence to the City of Yonkers, as well as a nod to our sister organization, the Untermyer Performing Arts Council. The sign is classic brown, which highlights its cultural and historical significance. We are still working with New York State to include the gardens on its Path Through History signage program along the Saw Mill Parkway. Finally, one can say that one is Lost in Yonkers no more!
Now is the time to come visit, as the garden is in full bloom. With our wonderful Only-at-Untermyer plant labels, you can spend a lot of time identifying plants that appeal to you. Another batch of cryptomeria is being planted at the Vista, which is increasingly resembling its original inspiration, the Villa d'Este at Lake Como.
Another reason to visit is the Untermyer Performing Arts Council's free summer concert series: Worldfest 2015. Concerts take place on summer Saturdays at 7:30pm on the lawn outside the Walled Garden. This week's performance features the Russian music, dancing, and song ensemble Barynya. More information can be found on the UPAC Facebook page.
Finally, remember to avail yourself of a proper tour of the gardens. While do it yourself visits are always rewarding, the information shared by our guides is truly eye-opening, and therefore well worth doing. Here is our tour schedule.
Kind regards,
Stephen F. ByrnsChairman, Untermyer Gardens Conservancy
