Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens:
Wednesday was a big day for us. With heavy equipment groaning and men perched on scaffolding tugging at heavy guide bands, the nearly century-old wrought iron dome on top of the Temple of Love, unpainted in 75 years, was lowered from its perch for a long-awaited restoration and powder coating. It was an amazing sight.
The canals have been filled with water, and the Rivers of Life are again casting their spell when you enter the Walled Garden. And our 10,000 tulips are about to do their thing. Do come visit our oasis in Yonkers.
Last month our Horticultural Advisor, Marco Polo Stufano, flew to England to receive the Veitch Memorial Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society for his "outstanding contribution to the advancement of horticulture." Only a few Americans have received this award since 1883. It is fitting that Marco's work at Wave Hill be so recognized, and Untermyer Gardens is proud to have his involvement as we move forward with our developing contribution to the advancement of horticulture.
