Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens,
Our heads are spinning in the midst of a very busy time of year. The gardeners, with the help of our new team of high school interns and our garden class, have just planted more than 1,600 perennials at the Rhododendron Walk, which will provide a colorful and textured understory to the rhododendrons as they grow. We again want to thank Ira Feinberg, whose spectacular nursery, The Plant Group, donated these plants. Ira previously donated the plants at the Vista and the Rock and Stream Garden.

I am thrilled to announce the publication of our new book, Forgotten No More. Richly illustrated with more than 100 gorgeous photographs and drawings, it charts the progress made during our first ten years and points to what we hope to accomplish in the next ten. It may be purchased on our website or in person at the Greeter Tent on weekends.
Another sign of progress is the recent awarding of a $10,000 grant from the City of Yonkers to greatly expand our Warblers on Warburton program. We will employ local high school students to plant large shade trees in parts of the city that are woefully barren.
Our concert season is now truly at hand. Please take a look at what is being offered in our impressive amphitheater with the most magnificent garden view this side of the Taj Mahal! Our first three concerts are highlighted below:
Eid al-Fitr, the celebration of the end of Ramadan, recently took place. The brilliant attire worn by our visitors gave the colors of the garden a run for their money. What a joyous pageant from our Muslim friends!

Last year, the gardeners planted two sequential cover crops to help enrich the soil at the new Ornamental Vegetable Garden. One was just cut down in preparation for planting our first crop of vegetables. You will appreciate our before and after photographs.

Finally, while the lilacs are waning, the intoxicating perfume of wisteria is at hand. Come to the Walled Garden and have a seat in the East Stoa to revel in the beauty and fragrance of its light purple racemes.
