Celebrate Mehregan!
The Untermyer Gardens Conservancy held its Mehregan gala on Sunday, October 2, 2022, making a jubilant return after a two-year absence. A celebration of Persian culture that has its roots in the ancient Persian harvest festival, the event twas co-chaired by Diana Elghanayan, Nazee Moinian, Katy Palizban, and Nassrin Iromloo Zahedi. Adam Weinberg, the director of the Whitney Museum, introduced the honoree Firooz Zahedi and shared selections of his stunning photography, including portraits of Elizabeth Taylor in Iran. Undeterred by the chill, damp day, the festive event took place in a tent in the garden with sumptuous Persian food, music, and dancing. Ali Granmayeh read a poem in Farsi by the noted poet H.E. Sayeh, and legendary Iranian-born singing star Sattar inspired joyful dancing throughout the night.
