The Sundial Garden
With an evergreen gnomon, Untermyer's floral sundial was reputed to tell time to the minute. Seasonal annuals were planted to keep the clock fresh. It was not part of Bosworth's original design but was added later. Apparently, Samuel Untermyer was fond of showing off this garden feature by setting his watch to the sundial.
Today all that remains are the metal frameworks for the trellised roses that gate the entryways to the garden. |
