Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens:
A Persian garden is based on the idea of the Garden of Eden. One of its signature features is a crisscrossing canal network, which symbolizes the Four Rivers of Paradise, or the Four Rivers of Life. As we know, the beginning of life requires the presence of water. It is therefore with enormous pleasure that I announce the completion of the reconstruction of the canals after nine months of work. It feels as though we have been reborn. The fish are soon to follow!
On the afternoon of Sunday, September 23, at 4:30, the Conservancy will sponsor a concert featuring three singers (soprano, tenor, and bass) and a pianist performing the music of Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) and his friends to commemorate the centennial of Bernstein's birth. The garden will be at its peak, so hearing the music from the amphitheater in full view of the Walled Garden will be a real treat. Tickets are $30. Please see our website for purchasing information.
Kind regards,
Stephen F. Byrns
