Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens,
If you are Persian, know that the Walled Garden speaks to a heritage at least 2,500 years old.
If you are Christian, know that it symbolizes the concept of Paradise, a shared concept of the three Abrahamic religions.
If you are Jewish, know that Samuel Untermyer was one of the most prominent Jews in the United States during his lifetime (1858-1940) and the face of resistance to Adolf Hitler from 1933 to 1938.
If you are Muslim, know that the Walled Garden is the finest Persian garden in the Western Hemisphere. This garden typology spread throughout the Muslim world over a period of 1,000 years.
If you are Indian, know that Untermyer's layout is similar to that of the Taj Mahal's garden.
