Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens:
Let's start off the year with some beautiful pictures to brighten our wintry days. Here is a gallery of photographs taken by our horticulturist Jessica Norman in 2016.
2011: 50 donors
2012: 128 donors
2013: 287 donors
2014: 494 donors
2015: 542 donors
2016: 694 donors
Looking forward, these are our plans for 2017:
- The completion and dedication of the Vista
- The relining and replumbing of the Rivers of Life canals in the Walled Garden
- Massive planting at the Temple of Love
- The continued restoration of the Gate House and lower entrance
We saw some changes on the Board of Directors during 2016. We welcomed the Reverend Thomas F. Pike and Mary Smart to the Board. Tom, a native of Hastings and a resident of Manhattan, is a retired Episcopal priest well known in preservation circles. Mary lives in New Rochelle and is a stalwart friend of the garden. Margaret Walker, an architect and Board member since the inception of the Conservancy, decided to step down after five years of outstanding service. We wish her well!
Finally, the Grand Holiday Illumination was an unqualified success. More than 6,000 people have come to visit thus far. Our friends, the brothers Clayton and Parker Calvert, made a video of the Illumination with a drone. Look at this!
Kind regards,
Stephen F. Byrns
President, Untermyer Gardens Conservancy
