Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens,
The Temple of Love has been unveiled!
On a perfect, sunny day last week, the Temple was dedicated in memory of Carol Martinelli, thanks to the munificent support of former Mayor Angelo Martinelli, her husband of 65 years. Many members of the Martinelli family and their friends were present. Angelo, a member of the Conservancy board, brought down the house with a heartfelt speech. There was not a dry eye in the house.
This is the Conservancy's most important restoration project to date. The temple was replaced and the dome restored. New electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems were installed. Massive masonry elements were hoisted into place, and new railings and a rustic arbor finished things off. There are now five waterfalls and six cascades.
