We are nearing the homestretch of the restoration of the canals in the Walled Garden. While the cool weather has slowed us down, we expect to apply the new waterproofing shortly and reinstall the coping stones for a mid-May dedication.

We are nearing the homestretch of the restoration of the canals in the Walled Garden. While the cool weather has slowed us down, we expect to apply the new waterproofing shortly and reinstall the coping stones for a mid-May dedication.
This will complete the first phase of the three-part reconstruction of the Walled Garden. The second phase will be the restoration of the Temple of the Sky, which shows significant deterioration of its Alabama marble. The City of Yonkers and the Conservancy have been working with Integrated Conservation Resources to evaluate the problem and consider its remedy. This project, to be funded by the City, should be undertaken in 2019
The third phase, the biggest of all, will be the reconstruction of the Persian Pool below the Temple of the Sky. Once the Untermyer family's swimming pool, it will become a shallow reflecting pool, with the mosaics completely restored. This enormous project will require significant funding from public and private sources. We hope to see it to completion in 2021.
Lo and behold, despite winter's best intentions, our daffodils have emerged on Daffodil Hill, below the Temple of Love. At this writing, they are beginning to come into their own and will raise all of our spirits.
As we prepare for the growing season, we especially appreciate the essential work of our volunteer greeters on the weekends. This important group greets people, answers questions, and accepts donations. We would welcome more volunteers; anyone interested should contact Ed Sabol ([email protected]).
Finally, our annual schedule of public tours has now been posted. If you have not been on a proper tour of Untermyer Gardens, please take advantage of this most informative experience. As before, there are three types of tours: President's, history, and horticulture.
