If there is one thing the Conservancy’s tenth anniversary has proven, it is that good things do come to those who wait. At long last, this year saw the completed restoration of the Temple of the Sky and the construction of the Hoop House, the first greenhouse on the property in nearly 75 years. We will welcome 100,000 visitors in 2021, in contrast to 5,000 a decade ago, a testament to the garden’s renaissance spearheaded by the Conservancy. Timothy Tilghman now leads a team of seven gardeners, a far cry from 2011 when he was a one-man band.
Our progress is fueled entirely by the generosity of friends like you. We hope you will consider a gift to support our work during the year ahead.

As we write this, work is under way to restore a ruined fountain in the southwest quadrant of the garden which will anchor a future Stumpery garden, a whimsical woodland fantasy that will delight both the young and old. Thanks to a $500,000 commitment from New York State and the generous support of the City of Yonkers and many friends, restoration of the Persian Pool and its gorgeous mosaics will begin next year and transform the Lower Terrace of the Walled Garden.
We enriched our outreach to families and children with the addition of a weekly Family Adventure Tour and a well-attended Family Fun Day with kites and magicians. Our Youth Horticultural Initiative grew to serve ten Yonkers high school students across five months, and we planted trees in the community through our new Warblers on Warburton initiative.

Our garden is truly a garden for all people, and we continually seek innovative ways to connect with and expand our audience. We inaugurated the Minnie Untermyer Concert Series in the amphitheater and presented nine dance and music performances covering a range of styles and cultures. Our first Mughal Garden Party celebrated Indian culture and attracted new friends from the Indian-American community, as well as Indophiles, for our Indo-Persian garden.
Though there are challenges aplenty, with your help the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy will rise to them. Admission to this extraordinary garden is free, and it is only through contributions like yours that we can safeguard this place of astonishing beauty and respite to everyone who crosses our threshold. We ask you to support our work as generously as you can and help us soar into the next decade.
