Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens,
As the active gardening season winds down, now is a good time to recognize and salute our fine gardeners. Timothy Tilghman, our peerless head gardener, is supported by three other full-time gardeners, Drew Schuyler, Stewart Molina, and Liz Dreeben, all natives of Yonkers. They each bring complementary skills to bear on their work and are superbly assisted by our seasonal gardeners, John Jacono and Maryam Farzaneh. Most of the time, these six work as a team on the endless tasks that produce such beautiful results, enjoyed by so many. Hats off to our sine qua non gardeners!
With our 2020 high school interns back in school, the gardeners have picked up where they left off to complete the preparations for our ornamental vegetable garden and orchard, which will be inaugurated next year. Many cubic yards of compost have been worked into the soil of the beds, and the perimeter areas are being seeded for grass. The contrasting colors, textures, and shapes of the stone dust paths and the mulched beds look quite lovely, even without any plants!
