Our seventh annual Summer Solstice Sunset Soiree honoring Martin Ginsburg was our most successful ever. Thank you to our co-chairs Diana Boodell and Lee Michel. The garden looked magnificent, and flowers were ever-present in keeping with our Flower Power theme. Opera singer Marc Molomot sang a wonderfully amusing ditty remembering Marian Heiskell, a great friend of the garden. Once again the New York Times was here to follow the event. Our walled garden recently received world-wide attention in the Persian community with a news piece on Iran International, a British-based TV channel. I was interviewed, which was translated into Farsi! Word is spreading…
With so much June rain, the garden is looking lush beyond belief….
I would like to draw your attention to two events that are coming up. July 21 will be our third annual Great Forgotten Garden Party, co-sponsored with Atlas Obscura. This is an over-the-top extravaganza, complete with dancers with snakes, water nymphs, a theremin performer, harpist, baroque opera sunset ceremony, Slavic band, and Mr Twin Sister. The “Forgotten Garden” moniker may soon be a thing of the past.
The Conservancy is sponsoring its first concert performance of jazz in the amphitheater. The Victor La Gamma Quartet will perform on August 11. Visit our website for information and to purchase tickets.
Don't forget to sign up for one of our new classes: Aquatic Design and Technique at Untermyer Gardens takes place this Sunday, I will be teaching Architecture in the Gardens on July 28 and we are excited to welcome Julia Eisen-Lester who will be teaching Art in the Gardens on Sunday, August 11.
