Dear Friends of Untermyer Gardens:
A new chapter in the life of Untermyer Gardens has begun. As of February 1, I am now working full-time as the president of the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy.
Thirty-one years ago, I was a founding partner of BKSK Architects, which is now a fifty-five-person architectural firm in New York City. The firm has prospered over the years, contributing significant, award-winning work to the metropolitan area. I have been honored to be part of BKSK, but my volunteer work at the Conservancy has taken more and more of my time and, in the process, captured my heart.
With our outstanding board, I am now committed to taking Untermyer Gardens to another level. We have made considerable progress in the past five years. In 2015 we had a banner year in revenues and donor participation; we estimate that we had 50,000 visitors. The deer fence has been built, and we are scheduled to complete the restoration of the Temple of Love and the Vista this year. Under the leadership of Timothy Tilghman and Marco Polo Stufano, six gardeners are expected to work their magic starting in the spring.
Stephen S. Lash will serve as vice chair. He is the chairman emeritus at Christie's Americas, which he continues to serve with distinction. An avid gardener, he was our Gala Honoree in 2014 and has been a strong advocate for the Conservancy.
Kind regards,
Stephen F. Byrns
Chairman, Untermyer Gardens Conservancy
