We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you a newsletter from the gardeners!
 
Fall colors are at their peak in the gardens and on the Palisades. Here are a few photos:

Last week the two enormous weeping beeches just inside the door to the Walled Garden were given their regular root invigoration treatment by Bartlett Tree Experts. After the soil around the two trees was decompacted using a supersonic air tool called an AirSpade, nutrients and organic matter were added. The gardeners then added a layer of mulch that will help retain soil moisture and keep weeds down. We hope that this treatment will keep these beeches happy for the next few years.

In the Walled Garden, restoration work continues on the canals as workers from Glencar Water Gardens and Lighting have just finished trenching for the new plumbing and are starting to add in the pipes that will carry water to the fountainheads. Once the plumbing is installed, they will pour concrete.

The gardeners would like to thank everyone whose donations helped us to purchase tulips. We have raised $5,000 and 10,000 tulips have been ordered. We are looking forward to planting them and we hope you will visit in the spring when they're in bloom!
