The mild weather allowed us to have an extended display of spring flowers. While they are now pretty much gone, the tulips put on a great show.

On May 1, the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art presented me with its Arthur Ross Prize for Stewardship. A large room in Manhattan was filled with people to whom I was happy to describe the glories of Untermyer Gardens.

For the past two months, our horticulturists have been teaching local high school students how to grow plants in a greenhouse. The students' pride in the growth of their horticultural babies has been uplifting for all concerned. Soon these plants will occupy the ground in the Walled Garden.

The Conservancy is soliciting volunteers to greet visitors, answer questions, and help us keep an eye on the garden on weekends, when we have many visitors. If you are interested, please simply reply to this email.
Finally, I was honored to give a tour recently to Her Imperial Majesty Empress Farah Pahlavi and her entourage. Before she married the late Shah of Iran, she studied architecture, so we had a lot in common. Her main interest was the Walled Garden, the finest Persian garden in the Western Hemisphere, but she hiked on the trails and did the entire circuit of the garden! She said it reminded her of beautiful times she enjoyed many years ago in Iran.
