Dear Friends of the Persian garden,
With regret, the co-chairs of Mehregan 2020 have concluded that it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel our celebration at Untermyer Gardens this year. But all is not lost. While we cannot gather together as a community, we hope to invite you in smaller groups to savor this beautiful Persian oasis at a convenient time for you. Please stay tuned for this further development.
Poetry has long been an essential part of the lives of Persians everywhere, a powerful source of hope, strength, and beauty during good times and bad. To give us all a bit of uplift, we have asked our Mehregan friends to share their favorite Persian ghazals and verses. Every few weeks, we will send you an email with a poem in English and, hopefully, Farsi, accompanied by images of the gardens. As the day of Mehregan draws near, we will gather these poems and photographs into a booklet to share with you. As you read each poem, may you imagine us all together in the magical Walled Garden at Untermyer Gardens as the sun sets.
The first poem was chosen by Katy Palizban and Cyrus Amir-Mokri:
