Two Pianos—Playing for Life, May 28
The Minnie Untermyer Concert Series kicks off on Saturday, May 28 with Two Pianos—Playing for Life, a live duo piano concert performed by two pianists—one Ukrainian, one Russian—as the centerpiece of a multi-media reenactment of a historic performance by two female, Jewish pianists for a Jewish-only audience in Nazi Germany in 1934. The presentation will explore music as a creative response to cultural exclusion, and has an interesting connection to Samuel Untermyer's gift of an amphitheater at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, which was dedicated in 1933 to Minnie Untermyer.
