We welcome volunteers in our two main volunteer programs: Garden Docents and Garden Greeters. If you'd like to volunteer with the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy, please contact us by email or by phone at (914) 613-4502.
Our Garden Docents lead 90 minute public and private tours of the gardens focusing on either history or horticulture. Garden Docents have an annual docent orientation in the winter. After orientation, they learn about the gardens through touring them with horticulture staff, reading documents about the gardens' history and finally by shadowing experienced docents as they give tours. Docents meet monthly with horticulture staff to walk the gardens and learn about current projects and what is in bloom. While our public tours are on Sundays, private tours may be on any day of the week.
Our Garden Greeters welcome visitors to the gardens and provide basic information about the gardens. Garden Greeters spend two hours on weekend days interacting with visitors. Greeters will have a short training session but neither detailed historical nor horticultural knowledge is required. If you'd like to be a Garden Greeter please email us at email@example.com.
