Drawing Onsite in the Gardens
Join Shelley Haven for Drawing Onsite in the Gardens, Saturday, June 27, 1:45 PM until 4:45 PM and experience nature anew with artist’s eyes. Tour the garden with Shelley and gain insights into selecting and framing your subject, create an artwork with her guidance and encouragement during the working session, then share a constructive critique of participants’ artworks.
For beginning and experienced students. Basic drawing supplies will be available. Experienced participants are encouraged to bring your preferred supplies.
Class Enrollment is limited to 12 people.

About Shelley Haven:
Shelley Haven is a visual artist and educator working in drawing, pastel, gouache, oils, and printmaking mediums. Her studio and teaching practice is propelled by her belief in creativity as our highest power and the primacy of the natural environment as the foundation for our humanity.
Shelley is currently a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts and was for more than 20 years at The Cooper Union. Locally, she has taught at Wave Hill in Riverdale and the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers.
Shelley maintains a studio practice at Yoho Studios in Yonkers and works onsite locally and on her travels around the world. Her work is included in the Library of Congress, Museum of Modern Art, New York Public Library Special Collections, The Netherland’s Stedelijk Museum, University of Iowa Library Rare Books Collection, New York University, Pfizer Inc., AIG Inc., and other public and private collections. Recent exhibitions include, in 2020, Blue Hill Art & Cultural Center, Pearl River; Riverfront Gallery, Yonkers; and Meetinghouse Gallery, New Marlborough. In 2019, the solo exhibition, Shelley Haven: The Architecture of Nature, was presented at Wave Hill.
Recent awards include, in 2018, the BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) Painting Grant and, in 2017, the Summer Teaching-Artist-in-Residence at the Hudson River Museum. Others include grants from the Puffin Foundation and the Manhattan Community Arts Fund; residency fellowships in Costa Rica at the David and Julia White Artists’ Colony, in Spain at Fundacion Valparaiso, and in the U.S. at the Anderson Center, the Millay Colony, the Saltonstall Foundation and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts; and a studio fellowship at the Manhattan Graphics Center.
Shelley holds a BA in studio art from Binghamton University and an MA and MFA from the University of Iowa.
