2016 Summer Solstice Sunset Soirée
Lecture: Untermyer Gardens: From Pompeii to Paradise--Uncovering a Great American Garden
Location: St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 225 West 99th Street
Join us as we chart the creation, crescendo, collapse, and recovery of one of America's exceptional landscapes. Discover fantastic gardens that were nearly lost to memory and nature's rapid progression. We will examine Samuel Untermyer's vision, as executed by the Beaux-Arts designer William Welles Bosworth, and the subsequent renown the gardens enjoyed through the mid-1900s. Followed by decades of uncertainty, the grand gardens fell into disrepair or total ruin. Very recently, the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy, in partnership with the City of Yonkers, has initiated efforts to reclaim this unique garden paradise.
The Conservancy's 2019 Summer Solstice Sunset Soirée will take place Wednesday, June 19, in the Walled Garden from 6:30–9:30 pm. The gala will honor Martin Ginsburg, who has played a leading role in the revitalization of the Yonkers waterfront and other communities along the Hudson. Diana Boodell and Lee Michel are co-chairing the event. Cocktails, lavish hors d’oeuvres, and dessert will be prepared and served impeccably by X2O. The Soirée’s theme is Flower Power, and guests are encouraged to dress exuberantly and take inspiration from our exquisite garden, which will provide a festive backdrop for a fun evening.
We do not use physical tickets. Your name will be added to the door list. Please check in at the reservation table the night of the event.
Untermyer Gardens Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. The non-deductible portion of each ticket is $125.
